When a club opens, it needs a party with a pulse to make the room feel like a destination on night one. In 2017, Hï Ibiza had Glitterbox. Nine seasons later, the disco brand that helped switch the lights on is walking out, and the way it is leaving tells you more about Ibiza's 2026 than any lineup poster.
Defected's flagship night is moving its Sundays from Hï to the Friday terrace at Amnesia, a 22-week run from 15 May to 9 October timed to land inside Amnesia's 50th-anniversary year. The full bill, confirmed in March, is a who's-who of the disco-house canon: Honey Dijon, Masters At Work, Armand Van Helden, Moodymann, Derrick Carter, Todd Terry, Dimitri From Paris, Inner City, Jayda G, Channel Tres and the Anane and Louie Vega Ritual, among many more.
Why leave a room you helped build?
Because a residency is leverage, and after eight years Glitterbox had built enough of it to choose its landlord. Hï is the newest, most production-heavy room in the Playa d'en Bossa strip; Amnesia is the cathedral, with a terrace that is part of house mythology and a 50th-birthday narrative to sell. Moving a proven Sunday brand onto Amnesia's marquee Friday is not a step sideways, it is a brand planting its flag on the island's most storied stage at the exact moment that stage has the loudest story to tell.
The party that made a new club feel essential just decided it would rather make an old one feel reborn.
What happens to the main Defected party?
Here is the twist most posters bury. While Glitterbox trades up to Amnesia's terrace, the core Defected night trades down in size: it takes Thursdays at Chinois in Marina Ibiza, a room of around 1,000 capacity, running 7 May to 8 October across 23 weeks, with Kerri Chandler, Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson, Lil Louis and Sam Divine on the bill. After a quarter-century of pushing into bigger and bigger boxes, the biggest house brand on the island is deliberately programming an intimate one.
That split is the actual strategy. Glitterbox gets scale and spectacle at Amnesia; Defected gets credibility and sweat at a club-sized room. One brand, two very different bets on what an Ibiza night should feel like in 2026.
What does the reshuffle do to the island?
It redraws the competitive map. Hï loses an anchor it has had since birth and now has a Sunday to rebuild around. Amnesia weaponises its 50th by importing a turnkey institution. And the quiet signal, a major brand choosing a 1,000-cap room on purpose, lands in a season when the affordability of the whole island is the story. When Defected decides the dancefloor-first move is to go smaller, the rest of the promoters should be taking notes.
