Ironworks: London Gets a 7,000-Capacity Warehouse on the Thames in October 2026

Who is building Ironworks, and where?

Ironworks is a 7,000-capacity venue announced for Thames Wharf in the Royal Docks, East London, opening in October 2026. It is a joint project between promoter LWE and PROJEKT, a placemaking organisation. LWE is the team behind a long list of London rooms (Printworks, Tobacco Dock, Junction 2, The Cause, Turnmills), so this is not a first-timer wandering into a 7,000-cap warehouse by accident.

The site itself carries weight. It sits on the former home of the Thames Ironworks and the shipbuilding yards that once worked this stretch of river. The build keeps that industrial bones: sound, lighting and visual production are designed around the existing architecture rather than papered over it.

What does the space actually look like?

Two rooms in one, basically. An indoor warehouse of around 78,000 sq ft, plus an open-air riverside terrace of around 80,000 sq ft looking out over the Thames. That terrace is the part that makes this different from another black-box shed: a panoramic outdoor space on the water is a rare thing in London at this scale.

The launch is deliberately small in volume: a limited series of six shows from October through the end of the year, billed around some of electronic music's most in-demand artists. Lineups are held back until the month after the venue opens. Beyond the club nights, the wider Thames Wharf site will run markets, outdoor cinema, wellness sessions and street food, and the Museum of Youth Culture will mount an installation on the history of London warehouse culture.

Why does a new big room matter right now?

Because London has spent years losing venues, not opening them. A major new large-capacity space, on the river, from operators who know how to run rooms, reads as a counter-signal in a city where the trend line has pointed the other way. Whether 7,000 capacity is good news for the working DJ is the more interesting argument, and it is already live.
