What exactly leaked?
Someone caught a placeholder link for a product called DrumFreak sitting on Arturia's own website, slotted in among the other Freak entries, with no hardware image attached. It did not stay up. Per Synth Anatomy, the page surfaced and was pulled, and per Gearnews the whole thing came down to "a leak on Arturia's website" rather than any announcement.
The details on that page were the kind you should not read too hard. There was a "$1" price sitting there, which the writers correctly called developer dummy markup, not a real number. The description text got the same treatment: a commenter with copywriting experience flagged the wording as boilerplate placeholder, not a spec sheet. So treat this as a name and a category, nothing more.
How is this different from a DrumBrute?
This is the part that actually matters. The reporting frames DrumFreak as sample-based and carrying "Freak DNA," which is a different lane from the Arturia DrumBrute family, the boxes built on a purely analog drum engine. The Freak side of the house is the hybrid side: the MicroFreak is a paraphonic hybrid synth, the MiniFreak a six-voice polysynth, both living as hardware and software. A drum machine pulled into that world reads as samples plus the playful, modulation-happy Freak interface rather than analog circuits per voice.
A name, a category, and a dollar of placeholder pricing. That is the entire confirmed leak, and it is still enough to get the room talking.
What are people actually saying?
On KVR the mood is cautiously optimistic. One poster summed up the bet plainly: "If the rest of the Freak line is anything to go by it should be decent." Others want a plugin version to land alongside any hardware, the way the rest of the Freak instruments ship in both forms, and someone floated a comparison to a hardware Battalion. Nobody is claiming inside knowledge. Everyone is reading the same removed page.
