What does OS 1.55 actually add?
Quite a lot for a free firmware drop on a synth that first shipped in 2012. The headline feature is a Euclidean sequencer mode: two Euclidean generators sit over the existing sequence and scatter trig pulses across the steps by formula, so a single knob turn can tip a flat four on the floor into something lopsided and alive. Elektron paired it with Control All, where holding a track key and turning one knob moves that parameter across all four tracks at once, and Loop Pages, which jumps straight to any sequencer page and loops it on its own. The arpeggiator gains a Rotate function that reshuffles its note offsets, and Save Trig to Sound finally lets you grab a sound from a single step with its parameter locks intact. It runs on every Analog Four built, the original MKI, the 2017 MKII and the Analog Keys.
A box more than a decade old getting a genuinely new sequencer for nothing is the kind of support that keeps Elektron owners loyal.
Why does the timing matter?
Because this is the first real thing Elektron has shipped since it changed hands. In April, Bonnier Capital, the investment arm of the Swedish media group Bonnier, took a controlling stake from the previous holder EMM Intressenter, and the message was the familiar one: day to day operations, product development and existing commitments stay unchanged. The company went a step further and said the deal does not change its product roadmap and even strengthens its ability to deliver plans faster. Statements like that are cheap. A free Euclidean sequencer on a machine this old is the receipt.
Should owners of older gear care?
This is the question the whole scene asks quietly every time a loved maker gets bought. Native Instruments went to inMusic, Muse Group swallowed Audacity and MuseScore, and the fear is always the same: new owners stop feeding the old machines and steer everyone toward the next purchase. Elektron's answer, three months in, is to add features the original buyers never paid for. That does not prove the model has changed, but it is the strongest signal a company in this position can send.
