Elektron's Outbox 8 finally pulls eight separate outs from a Digitakt, and your effects chain just got real

For years the knock on Elektron's groove machines in a serious setup was the same: one glorious stereo pair out the back, and twelve tracks fighting through it. You either bounced stems over Overbridge into a computer or you mixed in the box and hoped. The Elektron Outbox 8, previewed at Superbooth 2026, is the company quietly admitting that was never enough.

What does the Outbox 8 actually do?

It is a breakout box, not a new instrument. You connect a compatible Elektron over USB, the Outbox 8 taps the Overbridge stream, and out the front come eight DC-coupled, balanced quarter-inch jacks. A new menu appears on the host machine that lets you assign each output to a track: kick on output one, hats on two, that resampled chord stab on three. Pair two outs and you have a stereo track, up to four stereo pairs total. Run them flat and you have eight mono tracks. Send a stereo track to a single out and it sums to mono, so the routing math stays honest.

The compatible list is the Overbridge family: Digitakt and Digitakt II, Digitone and Digitone II, Analog Four and Analog Rytm MkII, and the Syntakt. A firmware update switches the extra outs on.

Why is DC-coupled the detail that matters?

Because DC-coupled outputs do not only pass audio. They pass control voltage. That means any of the eight can be flipped to CV or gate and wired into a modular system, so a Syntakt pattern can sequence your Eurorack from the same box that is feeding eight clean channels into a desk. One device, two jobs, no separate interface. Gearnews reports the outs hold identical latency to the internal stereo output with no offset, which is the difference between a usable live tool and a problem you spend a night phase-aligning.

What is the Powerhub, and what will this cost?

Elektron showed a second box next to it: a USB-C Powerhub for up to six devices. What it does beyond power, whether it routes data between Elektron units or just feeds them, was left vague at the booth. The Outbox 8 itself is pegged at a likely 249 to 299 euros, shipping in summer 2026, roughly June or July. Final pricing was still pending on Elektron's own site when the box was shown, so treat the number as a strong indication rather than a receipt.
